Our Vision
Equality for women in the game of golf and in our everyday lives.
Our Mission
To provide women of all skill levels the opportunity to play golf in a welcoming and fun environment, including brand new golfers.
The Original Pink Baller
Back in her intern days, Angela (the Pink Ballers founder) brought up the idea of learning how to play golf to a co-worker. He laughed and informed her that “golf is for white rich men only.”
He was a dick.
It was a number of years after this comment before Angela would golf for the first time. The first time she played was for a charity golf event at her work. Although the day was a stormy one, and she didn’t get to play a full day, it was a really fun event. She was willing to give golf a chance.
In the summer of 2014, Angela found herself playing the game more often. Her boyfriend and his family were patient enough to have her join their golf games. Despite her lack of skills, she enjoyed the beautiful summer days on the greens. There was just one big problem…this was not an activity she shared with many of her girlfriends.
Angela tried to get her friends into golf. She had a few close friends who were interested, but it wasn’t always seen as a priority for a fun social event. It was frustrating for Angela as she didn’t understand why her friends weren’t willing to try golf. But then she remembered that douche from her intern days and it hit her – golf is and can be a really intimidating sport for women no matter their skill levels.
Even she had moments where she didn’t enjoy the game all that much. Angela was (and still is!) learning. It was intimidating to play with golfers who have been playing for decades. Golf isn’t an easy sport.
The reason Angela gave golf a chance was after playing in a fun tournament at work. It was a relaxed environment and the perfect way to try golf for the first time.
Then one day in 2015, after a couple of drinks with friends, Angela started talking about hosting a girls only golf tournament. Her girlfriends were interested, the guys in the room all laughed, but Angela was serious. She was going to make this happen.
The First Pink Ballers Tournament
It was one of the hottest days of the summer when the original ballers made their way to a small Toronto apartment the morning of August 15th, 2015.
The ladies knew they were golfing, but didn’t know that this day would go down in history as the establishing tournament of Pink Ballers.
The original Pink Ballers ladies and foursomes:
- Meg, T, Sheena, Christina
- Camille, Irena, Bre, Mal
- Ang, Kenz, Vanessa, Emily
- The Original Party Marshall: Kel
A limo was rented to take us to Riverstone Golf and Country Club. We had paid to play 18 holes, but could only manage to get through 9 holes. Small gifts from the dollar store were handed out to the winning foursome and the best-dressed players. It was such a fun day that everyone knew this couldn’t happen only once. Pink Ballers was born.
